October 1, 2010 – “Like” Sunbelt Snacks on Facebook during October, company will give up to $50,000 to the National Breast Cancer Foundation

COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. (October 1, 2010) – October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Sunbelt is teaming up with the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. (NBCF) on a Facebook campaign designed to raise funds for free mammograms for women who could not otherwise afford them, and to support breast cancer research programs across the country.

“One click online—that’s all it takes to help raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation,” said Jeff Badger, brand manager for Sunbelt. “For every new person who likes Sunbelt Snacks on Facebook (http://facebook.com/SunbeltSnacks) during the month of October, we’ll give one dollar to the NBCF, up to $50,000. Every bit of the money we raise will go to support NBCF’s commitment to spreading knowledge and fostering hope in the fight against breast cancer.”

For years, Sunbelt has been committed to raising awareness for breast cancer through its support of Susan G. Komen affiliates across the country, and now it’s also partnering with NBCF to raise funds. NBCF’s mission is to save lives through early detection and to provide mammograms for those in need.

“NBCF is proud to partner with Sunbelt,” says NBCF Founder and CEO Janelle Hail. “As a company that values personal health and wellness, Sunbelt is saving lives by helping women detect breast cancer early. Their partnership and support will allow NBCF to provide mammograms for those who could not otherwise afford them.”

“It’s a subject close to my heart,” said Badger. “My sister is a breast cancer survivor, and I know firsthand the importance of early detection. So the ability to support NBCF’s mission is very rewarding.”

In addition to new breast cancer awareness messaging printed on boxes of Sunbelt granola bars and Sunbelt fruit and grain bars, Sunbelt is spreading the word about the fundraising effort via the company’s Facebook page. And it’s asking its Facebook fans to share the fundraising details with their friends in hopes of spreading the news online.

“Facebook has more than 500 million active users, so I’m pretty confident we can get 50,000 people to click the like button on our page,” said Badger. “One click is really an easy way to fight breast cancer.”
