September 20, 2017 – ARLINGTON, TX – Texas Health Resources recently received a $25,000 grant from National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc.® (NBCF), becoming a new participant in NBCF’s National Mammography Program, to help meet the breast health needs of low-income women and women lacking access to care in Collin County. The goal of this collaboration is to reduce the disparity in prevention and early detection breast health services among underserved women.
The Sue A. de Mille Women’s Diagnostic Center at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano will implement this grant to offer free screening mammograms, educational support and diagnostic services. The hospital will also be able to reach this underserved population by going directly to them within the communities where they live and work through the Texas Health Wellness for Life® Mobile Health Program.
“The Sue A. de Mille Women’s Diagnostic Center is excited to collaborate with National Breast Cancer Foundation and the opportunity to deepen our commitment to serve the women of the Collin county community,” said Shannon Gutierrez, director of Radiology and Medical Imaging at Texas Health Plano. “This grant will permit more than 100 women, who could not otherwise afford it, to receive potentially life-saving mammograms and diagnostic breast care.”
This is the first grant executed between the Sue A. de Mille Women’s Diagnostic Center and NBCF, and it will allow the organizations to meet their joint commitment to providing breast cancer screenings and prevention services to community members in greatest need. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, mammography is underused by women who have no regular sources of health care and women without health insurance.
“We are delighted to partner with Texas Health Resources and the Sue A. de Mille Women’s Diagnostic Center,” said Janelle Hail, Founder & CEO of NBCF. “NBCF is headquartered in Frisco, and we are thankful this collaboration opens doors to better serve those in need within our own community.”
Texas Health Plano’s Sue A. de Mille Women’s Diagnostic Center has two upcoming opportunities for those in need to receive free mammogram screenings and breast health education services on October 7 and November 4 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 800-955-1349.
