Launched in 1987, AICF’s Mobile, No-cost Breast Cancer Screening Program promotes breast cancer early detection and education in NYC medically underserved neighborhoods. Through our screening program, women are provided with no-cost mammograms, clinical breast exams, and breast health education on a Mammogram Bus that travels the five boroughs of New York City to hold breast cancer screening events in neighborhoods with high rates of breast cancer, low incidences of screening, and high socio-economic needs. We proactively seek partnerships with organizations and institutions that serve these neighborhoods. Our community partners enable us to reach a diverse group of women by promoting our screening events, recruiting patients for screening, and hosting our Mammogram Bus. Once a community site has been identified and a screening event scheduled, AICF’s staff starts working with host sites to recruit women for the event. Post-screening, AICF’s Patient Navigator calls women who are recommended for further exams to rule out cancer, assists them with scheduling their diagnostic testing, and provides support as they navigate the continuum of care.
“The National Breast Cancer Foundation’s support of AICF’s Mobile, No-cost Breast Cancer Screening Program has been instrumental to the Program’s growth and sustainability. This funding has ensured that thousands of women were provided with comprehensive breast cancer screening, education, and navigation services, and those who were diagnosed were navigated to treatment quickly.”
Donations are always appreciated, but there are lots of great ways to get involved.
