Philadelphia has the highest cancer rate of large American cities, and historically higher rates of breast cancer and late-stage diagnosis in comparison to the national average. The NCI-designated Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center (SKCC) breast cancer program provides comprehensive and holistic care through early detection screenings, prevention education, community outreach, treatment and survivorship. The Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening and Treatment Program is managed by Celeste Vaughan-Briggs, LCSW, an Oncology Social Worker with over 28 years of experience. The program is designed to make breast cancer screening and treatment services accessible to qualified women. Celeste and her team work directly with women through every stage of breast cancer – from initial diagnosis to survivorship – breaking down barriers to care and providing all necessary resources, including counseling to reduce fear of diagnosis and treatment, access to translation services, transportation to treatment/doctors, linkage to home care and additional community resources.
